Dr. Hinrich Holm appointed Deputy Chairman of the Managing Board
The Supervisory Board of NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank appointed the bank’s current Chief Risk Officer, Thomas S. Bürkle, as the Chairman of the Managing Board with effect of 1 January 2017. Mr. Bürkle will take over from Dr. Gunter Dunkel, who has decided to retire at the end of the year.
Mr. Bürkle (63) has been a member of the Managing Board of NORD/LB as Chief Risk Officer (CRO) since 1 January 2014. In this role he is responsible for the Credit Risk Management, Finance and Risk Controlling, Special Credit Management and Economic Research divisions.
Mr. Bürkle had previously held several senior positions in the NORD/LB Group. From 2002 to 2005 he was the Chairman of the Managing Board of the former Lithuanian subsidiary NORD/LB Lietuva in Vilnius, before becoming the General Manager of NORD/LB’s New York branch in 2006. In 2009 he became Chairman of the Managing Board of the former NORD/LB affiliate Bank DnB NORD in Copenhagen. In 2011 Mr. Bürkle led a project to optimise the management of the bank’s risk assets, before becoming Chairman of the Managing Board of Deutsche Hypothekenbank in Hanover in July 2012.
“Thomas Bürkle is an excellent and experienced manager who has already successfully held many top positions within the NORD/LB Group. He stands for the conservative risk policy which is and will remain a key component of the bank’s business model,” explained the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of NORD/LB and the Minister of Finance of Lower Saxony, Peter-Jürgen Schneider.
The Supervisory Board also appointed Dr. Hinrich Holm (50) as the future Deputy Chairman of the Managing Board with effect of 1 January 2017. He has been a member of NORD/LB’s Managing Board since 1 February 2010, initially as Chief Financial Officer and currently responsible for the capital markets business including Treasury, Markets, Bank Assets Allocation, Corporate Finance, Corporate Sales and Credit Asset Management divisions as well as the savings bank network business. He is also responsible for the bank’s activities in Saxony-Anhalt and the bank’s foreign branches.
Dr. Holm joined NORD/LB as Risk Controller in 1996 and moved one year later to the bank’s New York branch. In 2002 he was appointed to the Managing Board of the former Lithuanian subsidiary NORD/LB Lietuva, where he became CFO/CIO and worked closely with the Chairman of the Managing Board at the time, Thomas Bürkle. In 2005 Dr. Holm returned to Hanover and took on the role of Head of Finance in the Group’s head office, before being appointed to the Managing Board in 2010.
“Dr. Hinrich Holm is an accomplished and versatile manager who has extensive experience in market, back-office and finance divisions and will drive the continued development of the bank as part of the team with Thomas Bürkle and the other members of the Managing Board,” explained the Chairman of the Supervisory Board Peter-Jürgen Schneider. “It is a good sign that the bank has again managed to find in Thomas Bürkle and Dr. Hinrich Holm the best candidates for important key positions from among its own ranks.”
The Supervisory Board congratulates Mr. Bürkle and Dr. Holm on their future responsibilities and wishes them every success for the future. The Supervisory Board will decide in due course who is going to succeed Mr. Bürkle as Chief Risk Officer.
