NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank has won gold for the second time in a row at the Partnerships Awards 2018 which were held in the UK. The awards are presented each year by Partnerships Bulletin, one of the sector’s most renowned publications. This was the 20th time that the magazine has recognised the world’s best public private partnership (PPP) projects and players of the year.
More than 100 PPP projects from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, and Asia were submitted for the Partnerships Awards in 18 different categories. NORD/LB once again won gold in the category Debt Provider of the Year, beating off competition from big international players such as Aviva Investors, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Sumimoto Mitsui Banking Corporation Group.
NORD/LB has concluded more than 30 PPP transactions in the last two years, either as mandated lead arranger or as the sole arranger. The laudation speech referred to how NORD/LB’s relatively small team is constantly working on innovative funding methods and represents a permanent fixture in the market. The speech also said that NORD/LB chooses to support social projects and makes an important contribution to the development of society through its work. One example of this is the first social infrastructure investment in Ireland with an innovative third-party financing structure.
“It makes us proud that we, a regional bank based in northern Germany, play in an international league with success,” said Dr Hinrich Holm, a member of the NORD/LB Managing Board with responsibility for structured finance in the energy and infrastructure sectors. “I am delighted that the hard work of my colleagues at NORD/LB has once again been recognised at an international level with a gold award.”
